Wow, Wham, Word and Op Art – Willy Bo Richardson early first review
The rain chased us into the Phillips de Pury Chelsea gallery for a moment of what are we going to see.
Overlooking the celebrated High line and The Hudson River, it was a wonderful surprising to see the Richardson pictures – 6 striped watercolor and gouache paintings.
Immediately reminiscent of Bridget Riley Paintings – Op Art paintings. Not surprisingly, he found his painterly voice in the stripe. Richardson has relentlessly pursued the possibilities offered by his exploration of colored vertical strokes.
